Iksan City Disabled Sports Association Wins Overall Championship at 17th Jeollabuk-do Disabled Sports Competition

[익산=이인호 기자] The Jeonbuk Iksan City Disabled Sports Association team won the overall championship at the 17th Jeollabuk-do Disabled Sports Competition.

About 250 athletes and officials participated in the 17th Jeollabuk-do Sports Festival for the Disabled, held in Gimje City for three days from the 15th to the 17th, and achieved excellent results in most sports, including track and field.

The Iksan City Disabled Sports Association athletes participated in 14 events and earned 11 gold, 11 silver, and 15 bronze medals. In particular, he earned a lot of points in four sports: badminton, gateball, billiards, and lawnball, winning the title of champion in each event.

Iksan City, which had been in the bottom tier every year before the establishment of the Iksan City Sports Association for the Disabled, achieved remarkable growth after the establishment of the Iksan City Sports Association for the Disabled in 2019, achieving third place last year and winning the overall championship this year, excluding the COVID-19 period.

Mayor Jeong Heon-yul, chairman of the Iksan City Sports Association for the Disabled, said, “I think the great success of this competition is a joint product of the consistent support and volunteer work of the Iksan City Sports Association for the Disabled executives and staff and volunteer groups. “We will continue to do our best to expand the variety of sports for the disabled in Iksan City and provide support for disabled athletes,” he said.
