Anyone who runs regularly cannot avoid the issue of nutrition. Having enough energy is just as important as the question of tolerance. An optimal run begins with full stores and an almost empty stomach. But just these simple requirements raise a whole host of other questions: What should I eat and when? How much should I eat? And isn’t it possible without it?

First, let’s take a look inside our bodies. The most important metabolism for the provision of energy is energy metabolism. It processes carbohydrates, also known colloquially as sugar, into glycogen, which is stored in the muscles and liver. Well-filled glycogen stores buffer consumption for approximately 40 to 60 minutes, depending on the intensity of the run. We store excess in the form of body fat – in the known places.
