“How can you say something like that? »: athletes respond to Tibo InShape on the generalization of doping

Doping “an integral part of high-level sport”? This is what Tibo InShape said on social networks, in a post already seen more than 4 million times. The influencer, known for his bodybuilding content, reacted to the announcement of Paul Pogba’s positive test for testosterone.

“People are surprised about doping in football. But it’s an integral part of high-level sport. It’s not just in bodybuilding or cycling. (…) At a high (professional) level, few people are not doped. It exists of course, but it’s rare,” he wrote on X, ex-Twitter.

Statements which provoked the anger of many French athletes, starting with the 97th in the ATP world Corentin Moutet: “How can we say something like that? Anti-doping controls are omnipresent. We are constantly located, we train hard to perform well. The proof when an athlete takes drugs, he is caught by the controls. Quite funny to see a tweet like this from someone more drawn than 99% of top athletes. »

Clarey, Bonneval, Bonnet…

Still in tennis, Laurent Lokoli, who fought this year to return to the highest level and come out of qualifying for the Australian Open and Wimbledon, also stepped up to the plate: “What is not necessary not read. You would perhaps have to live in the professional environment of all disciplines to speak this way. Because all athletes have made sacrifices since childhood to get where they are. »

On the side of the peloton, accustomed to the Tour de France and rumors of doping, Alexis Vuillermoz of TotalEnergies demanded “respect” for “the many professional athletes who practice their sports in a clean manner”. According to his compatriot Lilian Calmejane, who runs for Intermarché-Circus-Wanty, “for 90% of people, it’s hard to admit that there are elites, people with talent. »

But they are not alone. Olympic basketball silver medalist Andrew Albicy, former French XV international Hugo Bonneval, Olympic alpine ski downhill vice-champion Johan Clarey, 3,000m steeplechase specialist Alexis Phelut and vice-president -European table tennis champion Simon Gauzy each, in their own way, threw a little dig at Tibo InShape. A way to also respond to all those who think the same thing!
