Hooray, there will be no world tournament in the Czech Republic. Dominik Hašek is happy

Hockey goalkeeper Dominik Hašek, who has long publicly supported sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes, now very much welcomes the fact that the Tennis Tournament of Champions will not be held in the Czech Republic, as it would be an “advertisement for war and genocide”, according to him, about a surprising twist regarding the venue at the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) decided at the last minute. At the end of June, Hašek sharply criticized Tu for the fact that she stopped short of restricting the start of Russian and Belarusian players at the tournament in Prague.

For businessman Tomáš Peteru, who wanted to organize the event in Ostrava and Prague, this is, according to him, a big disappointment. “It’s a huge disappointment for us,” he told iDNES.cz. “For five or six weeks, we handled and prepared all the essentials. We almost made a miracle. We have even already sent a truck to London for the special purple color that the WTA ordered to paint the courts. Then they didn’t even let us know that it would be played in Cancún,” he wondered about the WTA’s policy, which, according to him, makes no sense, he told the Sport.cz website.

She is amazed at the fact that the bosses force the female tennis players to fly along the Asian line to Central America at the end of the season, after which most of them are waiting for the final of the BJK Cup in Seville. “This is madness. They claim they asked female players. But only the American Pegula, who is in Mexico in a moment, could nod to them without embarrassment. And what about Šwiateková, Czechs and other European women? I unequivocally rule out that they wanted to go to Cancun and not to Ostrava,” Petera continued, pausing.

“The biggest business they have is handled at the very last minute. Then they push him to Guadalajara, Fort Worth and Cancun, where they absolutely lack a fan base and tennis facilities,” he added.

The approach of businessman Tomáš Peter, who wished to offer the tennis tournament to Czech viewers, raised Dominik Hašek from his chair, who opposes the tennis association WTA, for example for its non-conflicting approach to Russian and Belarusian sportswomen at the tennis tournament in Prague.

“I am very glad that this huge advertisement about the Russian war and crimes, including the genocide of Ukrainian children, will not take place on the territory of the Czech Republic. The organizer Mr. Peter is obviously indifferent to the Ukrainian and Russian people who will lose their lives because of this event. Thanks (also for Ukraine) to everyone for the support,” he commented on the matter on the X social network.

As an explanation, Hašek added in another post that holding this tournament anywhere in the world under the current rules would be a huge advertisement for the Russian imperialist war and would cost many Ukrainian and Russian lives. “The WTA should be criticized daily for this attitude. It’s about lives,” he emphasized.

A few weeks ago, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Haška heated up, when it expressed its incomprehension over the restriction of the start of Russian and Belarusian players at the upcoming tournament in Prague. In a statement on Twitter, she stated that she was against the war in Ukraine, yet she paused over the actions of the Czech authorities, which prevented the participation of Russian and Belarusian tennis players despite their status as neutral athletes. He will continue to monitor the situation. The former hockey goalkeeper Dominik Hašek responded to the WTA’s statement, who, on the other hand, supported the actions of the Czech authorities.

“The WTA strongly condemns the war in Ukraine and the reprehensible actions of the Russian government. The WTA continues to support Ukrainian athletes – as well as other WTA athletes who face enormous challenges as professionals, while many of their loved ones and their countries face attacks from Russia,” the organization’s statement opened.

Later, however, she was surprised that female tennis players of Russian and Belarusian nationality were prevented from starting despite their status as neutral athletes. “Despite their neutrality, some WTA players are denied by the Czech authorities the opportunity to start at the WTA 250 tournament, which is to be held next week in Prague. WTA rules state that all female players must be allowed to compete on the WTA circuit based on merit alone, without discrimination. We will continue to monitor the situation as we take into account important considerations regarding these complex geopolitical issues,” the WTA added.

Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Czech government approved a ban on the start of Russian and Belarusian athletes on Czech territory in June. Although Belarus did not actively participate in the war, it allowed Russia to launch attacks from its territory.

The WTA’s statement was condemned by Dominik Hašk, who protested vehemently against the possible start of the Russian and Belarusian women at the Prague Open in recent days and weeks, and then published a sharp reaction on Twitter towards the women’s tennis association. “Stop lying! They are citizens of Russia and Belarus and represent the actions of their countries – Russia’s war of aggression, killings and crimes including genocide. More Ukrainians and Russians will die when they can play tournaments. The WTA bears full responsibility for this and will pay billions of dollars to Ukraine,” Hašek wrote.
