Hoffenheim Coach Warns Against Increasing Expectations for Maximilian Beier’s National Team Call-Up

TSG coach warns

Hoffenheim’s head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo does not want to further increase the expectations of Maximilian Beier after the rumors about a call-up to the national team. “I am of the opinion that Maxi no longer needs a headline in this direction. I’m looking forward to his further development,” said Matarazzo on Thursday at the press conference before Friday night’s Bundesliga game against Borussia Dortmund (8:30 p.m.) about the striker, who is currently in top form.

In recent days, the 20-year-old Beier has been considered a candidate for a first-time appointment to the DFB team by the new national coach Julian Nagelsmann. Matarazzo, who was once an assistant at TSG under Nagelsmann, claimed that he had “not spoken to Julian about this topic”.

Beier, who returned from a two-year loan to Hannover 96 in the summer, has scored four Bundesliga goals this season and is currently scoring in the fourth game in a row. In the TSG attack he competes with experienced strikers such as Wout Weghorst (31) and Ihlas Bebou (29). Matarazzo asked for differentiation from the attacker. “I’m happy about every headline when he does something in the game: he deserves it,” said the 45-year-old. Beier is again a candidate for the first eleven against BVB. Matarazzo left it open whether Weghorst, who was recently injured (thigh problems and bruised ribs), would be available. “He’s certainly questionable for the game.”

In addition to Baier, “Sport Bild” also traded Union attacker Kevin Behrens (32), Cologne’s Davie Selke (28) and second division striker Robert Glatzel (29) from Hamburger SV as potential striker candidates for the DFB. Most recently, there was only one regular center forward in the German squad, Niclas Füllkrug (30), but the Neu-Dortmunder had to leave early due to an injury.
