The current Champions League champion defends the title. The 2023/24 edition starts this Tuesday and Guardiola’s team faces Red Star in Manchester. A match, a priori, affordable… but one that the Catalan coach does not want to be a surprise for his team.
These were the words of the Manchester City coach:
Champions won: “In perspective, we didn’t do anything special, we only won one… The important thing is that the players don’t feel relaxed. If the board is relaxed, well, they don’t score goals… For our club to win the Champions League is something incredible. “How many teams have won a Champions League? In perspective we didn’t do anything special, just one. For us the club didn’t have it, being part of that is a source of pride.”
Goals: “Every season we start the competition with the first match… and the goal is always to win. First the group stage, then the round of 16, trying to win… We don’t change when we don’t win. It depends on our performance and level. “We are incredibly happy to defend this crown. This competition does not allow you to go down. We were always strong at home, tomorrow is the first step.”
Win two in a row: “Only Madrid or Milan did it a few years in a row. I was incredibly proud to be coach of Barcelona. We won twice but not in a row. It’s difficult, we tried…”.
