Golf, Ryder Cup Colsaerts: “Aberg like McIlroy and Schwarzel”

Less than a week before the Ryder Cup (September 25 – October 1), Nicolas Colsaerts, vice-captain of Europe, took stock of the dynamics of the European team. From the thunderous arrival of Ludvig Aberg (23) to the integration of the rookies, the Belgian is confident before the clash in Rome.

“Are the pairs of foursomes and four balls already defined?
Of course ! We are ready, we already know what is likely to be on paper. When choosing teams, there are several things that come into account. We work on the statistics, we look at which pair works best in four balls, which pair works best in foursomes, the state of form and the understanding between the players.

Besides, there will only be new foursomes in the European team.
This is not a problem. Any team, at one time or another, experiences this change of cycle, this new generation and these young people arriving. It happens naturally. At the time, Severiano Ballesteros or José Maria Olazabal weren’t going to be on the team forever. They were replaced by Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood, guys who had incredible Ryder careers. I don’t think this story of new pairs or new players will be complicated, it’s just a natural evolution. Today, with statistics, we always find a solution. And, who knows, maybe we’ll find a pair that will last for the next five or six Ryder Cups.
