Chancellor Olaf Scholz dealt with the German basketball players well before the World Cup triumph in Manila. On the morning of the successful final against Serbia (83:77), Scholz sent a message to national coach Gordon Herbert, as he revealed with a smile in the press conference. “When I looked at my cell phone during my workout at 6:30 a.m. I had a message from Olaf Scholz. I had to read it a few times because the message was in German,” said Herbert, making the journalists present laugh.
Even after the historic title win, the Chancellor spoke out again, this time publicly. “World Champion! Sensational, historic and so deserved. Congratulations @DBB_Basketball,” Scholz wrote on X, formerly Twitter. The SPD politician had already described reaching the final with a victory over the USA as “historic”.
