This Sunday, September 17, Gaël Monfils delivered one of the shots of the year during the UTS in Frankfurt. The “Monf” lost against Diego Schwartzman, Christopher Eubanks and Andrey Rublev. The current 142nd in the world was therefore eliminated in the group stage. But it was not these defeats which marked his presence at the tournament organized by Patrick Mouratoglou.
Fighting with Rublev, Gaël Monfils released a shot that is probably achieved once in 1,000. With a hammer grip, the Frenchman sent a missile along the line during a return of service. The latter was simply unstoppable and pinned the Russian on the spot who couldn’t believe it.
Monfils, who is often known for his spectacular shots, will have the opportunity to showcase his showman skills at the Laver Cup from September 22-24. As a reminder, he was selected by Roger Federer in this competition which pits Europe against the rest of the world.
