It is known that Osnabrück coach Tobias Schweinsteiger (41) once assisted HSV colleague Tim Walter (47) in the FC Bayern Munich youth team for three years (2015 to 2018). In the 2016/17 season, both won the German B youth championship together with Bayern’s U17 team.

Hamburg’s sports director Jonas Boldt (41) and the Osnabrück coach have much closer contact than their ex-colleagues Walter and Schweinsteiger.

Boldt and the then assistant to head coach Dieter Hecking (59) got along well when they were at HSV (2019/20). They were also often seen together in their free time. You would often sit with Hecking at an Italian restaurant in Winterhude and watch football.
They went to tennis together and both were into ice hockey. Boldt and Schweinsteiger have great contacts with EHC Red Bull Munich.
The friendship lasted even after Schweinsteiger moved to 1. FC Nürnberg in 2020. Both are in regular contact. Boldt has already visited the VfL coach in Osnabrück twice.

Last February we went to Dortmund together and watched the Champions League round of 16 between Dortmund and Chelsea (1-0).
Of course, Boldt also followed Schweinsteiger’s spectacular promotion season in Osnabrück. After six match days, the ex-HSVer took over VfL in twelfth place at the end of August 2022. He scored 64 points from 32 games with Westphalia and was promoted straight away.
The fact that things have been modest for the newcomer in the 2nd league so far (only one point, 18th place, most recently 0:7 in Hanover) is not that surprising given their modest means…
