Fischer and Martirosyan intervene in World Cup events

U23 European champion Sarah Fischer and Sargis Martirosjan will take part in the action at the World Weightlifting Championships in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, the penultimate day of the competition. Despite persistent back problems, the Lower Austrian wants to score points in the fight for the Olympic tickets with a new duel record of more than 240 kilograms. The 22-year-old will compete in Riyadh in the over 87 kilogram class, Martirosjan in the up to 109 kilogram category.

At the European Championships in April, Fischer won bronze in the clean and jerk and Martirosjan in the snatch. In the duel classification, however, there were not enough medals. They finished the 2022 World Cup in 14th and eleventh place respectively. For Fischer it is the third World Championships in the general class, for the 37-year-old Martirosjan it is the eighth. He achieved his best placement in 2021 when he was ninth. Both will compete in the B group in these title fights.

Qualifying for the games is particularly tough. In France there will only be twelve participants in the five weight classes for each gender. Ten places each go through a qualification ranking; this ticket hunt continues until April 28th. Only those who took part in certain events can take part, such as the current World Cup and the World Cup in Phuket in Thailand at the beginning of April. When it comes to the Olympics, Fischer belongs to the over 81 kilogram class, Martirosjan to the over 102 kilogram class.
