The president of SAD do Famalicão, Miguel Ribeiro, welcomed today the revenues of the last football transfer market, which include the recent sale of Iván Jaime to FC Porto and part of the transfer of Pedro Gonçalves to Sporting.

“Famalicão is an example. This summer, between the transferred players, like Alexandre Penetra and Iván Jaime, between rights held, like those of Manuel Ugarte, and a percentage of the transfer that he had from Pedro Gonçalves, he obviously made an extraordinary market “, noted the manager, when participating in the Thinking Football summit.

According to Miguel Ribeiro, the financial income of the Famalicenses allows the club to have its sustainability assured for the next three seasons, with economic results that he believes will become part of normality.

“This market is just a consequence of three or four years of work, which for us becomes an objective that I believe will become regular. This is the challenge that Portuguese clubs have to face, to structure themselves in such a way that the market is part of the operation. Famalicão has an assured future for 2023/2024, 2024/2025 and 2025/2026”, he guaranteed.

On the other hand, he believes that the sporting aspect is also well underway, referring to the recent loan signing of Chiquinho (ex-Wolverhampton), the “ideal reinforcement” to take the place of the now Porto player Iván Jaime.

The president of the SAD of the northern club recalled that, apart from the three ‘big ones’ and Sp. Braga, as well as V. Guimarães and Rio Ave in the background, the emblems of the League have television contracts “practically priced” at the same value, not enough to guarantee survival, so he considers that the Famalicão model should be followed.

Tiago Pinto, sporting director of AS Roma, also participated in the conference that intended to discuss the role of the transfer market in the ‘financial life’ of clubs.

The leader of the Romans, who are currently trained by José Mourinho, addressed the paradigm shift caused by the clubs in Saudi Arabia, a phenomenon that he sees naturally, he who saw the loss of central Roger Ibañez to the Arabs of Al-Ahli as logical.

“In England, they criticize what happens in Saudi Arabia. What happens in Saudi Arabia is what happens in the English League. It is what happens in Portugal in relation to the South American market. The market speaks louder. there he was happy when Chelsea arrived and paid 120 million for Enzo Fernández”, he joked.

The second edition of the Thinking Football Summit, an event organized by Liga Portugal, takes place between today and Saturday, in Porto, with several discussion panels that encompass the various dimensions of the sport, bringing together “industry professionals, companies, fans and students”.
