Exploring Strategic Alliances: Redefining the Boundaries of Football

Giovanni Solazzi, Zeljko Karajica and Ignacio Beristain opened the second day of the Thinking Football Summit 2023

In order to stimulate discussion on the evolution of the football scene, and taking into account the exploration of the emergence and impact of investment groups. Giovanni Solazzi (VP & MD at Blue Sports Group), Zeljko Karajica (CEO of SEH Football) and Ignacio Beristain (President of Estoril-Praia) analyzed how strategic alliances between different clubs can redefine the boundaries of Football, examining the benefits of sharing resources , knowledge and talents in an interconnected ecosystem, in a panel moderated by Luís Vicente, Chairman of APEX Capital.

Giovanni Solazzi kicked off this panel, highlighting the difficulties that exist in managing a club but, at the same time, the benefits that are inherent to it. “It’s not easy to manage football clubs, we make a lot of mistakes, but that’s also how we evolve. It is a constant challenge, but enriching at the same time. It is also necessary to be patient, as the results are not immediate,” he said.

Zeljko Karajica stressed that SEH Football works, above all, on the development of younger players. “We have a very vast and interesting network in several sports. We started four years ago and are building a solid foundation with investments in gyms and infrastructure. ‘Let the kids play’ is our motto. There are more than 1000 teenagers who are in our academies, but we know that no more than 25 will continue in Professional Football”, he revealed.

Ignacio Beristain, President of Estoril Praia, spoke a little about his experience in leading the management of the Canarinhos, focusing on the passion that is necessary to work in this field and the constant support that each club requires throughout the season.

“Our group of investors is convinced that there is quality in European football and that it is the best model to capitalize on. They like sport and are passionate about what they do. We control four clubs, with different structures, but which are brothers at the same time. It has been a good learning experience, but we have to focus on operational excellence and what each club needs”, explained Ignacio Beristain.
