While the Belgian volleyball fan is still enjoying the European Championship in his own country – which had a spectacular final between Serbia and Turkey, Volley Vlaanderen is rumbling at the top.
General manager Geert De Dobbeleer was pushed aside. The volleyball association announced that it is ending the collaboration with As@p Management, with which De Dobbeleer is affiliated.
This is met with protest from some of the employees of Volley Vlaanderen, who will stop working until Friday and address the situation in an open letter.
“After a successful European Championship in our own country with more than 50,000 fans, 1,000,000 euros in ticket revenues and a growing number of members, we cannot accept the decision,” they open the statement.
The employees are therefore completely behind De Dobbeleer.
“This and the many other successful projects of recent years, under the leadership of Mr. Geert De Dobbeleer, have brought volleyball to an unseen level. The substructure has also been expanded considerably and the income has increased considerably.”
We demand that the termination of the cooperation with As@p Management be canceled with immediate effect and we demand a thorough reform of the Board of Directors.
“Confidence in the current policy of this Board of Directors has been irrevocably damaged and we see no recovery possible with the current composition. We would like to point out that we have repeatedly asked for a dialogue, which has so far proved unsuccessful.”
Let’s see if that message also reaches the top of volleyball.
