Embracing an Active Autumn: Bruges Launches ‘Sport in your Neighborhood’ Initiative

The sporty wind is blowing through Bruges this autumn! Franky Demon, the councilor for sport, enthusiastically announces that the city is committed to getting every Bruges resident active. “Exercise is not only good for the body, but also for the mind. And that’s why we want everyone to have the opportunity to exercise,” says Demon.

The ‘Sport in your Neighborhood’ initiative kicks off on September 18 and offers a variety of sports such as yoga, HIIT and Zumba. With locations spread across the center and the northern districts such as Sint-Jozef and Zeebrugge, there is always a sports activity nearby. And with a price tag of only 4 euros per lesson, it is also affordable. More information can be found at www.brugge.be/sportinjebuurt.

For young people there is the SNS pass, a passport to more than 80 group lessons ranging from badminton to skating. This pass is not only valid in Bruges, but also in surrounding municipalities such as Damme and Zedelgem. More details can be found at www.sportnaschool.be.

The elderly are certainly not forgotten. Under the motto ‘Keep Moving’, they can participate in various activities such as Line Dance and aquagym. This initiative is a collaboration between the Sports Department and the Mintus community centers. For more information, visit www.brugge.be/blijfbewegen.

People with a physical or mental disability can indulge themselves at G-Dansant. Here it’s all about dancing pleasure and expression. The lessons are given at Hoeve Hangerijn in Assebroek. More information is available at www.brugge.be/g-dansant-brugge.

And for the young sports enthusiasts in Zeebrugge there is ‘Sport on Friday’. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 can become acquainted with various sports disciplines after school under the guidance of certified teachers. More details can be found at www.brugge.be/sportopvrijdag.
