Dunmore Badminton Club is holding an anniversary event
A community sports club in Co. Waterford is planning a big celebration night next month to mark its 70th anniversary.
The Dunmore Badminton Club, which was formed in 1953, will be holding an anniversary night in the Granville Hotel, on the Waterford quayfront, on Saturday, October 21.
A spokesperson for the club spoke about the event to the Waterford News & Star and said “a big call out” is being relayed to past and present members to make it a night to remember.
“Our club celebrates its 70th Anniversary at a function in the Granville Hotel on Saturday, October 21,” she said.
“For 70 years now, players of all ages and levels have enjoyed the game of badminton in a friendly and social environment at Dunmore Badminton Club,” she added.
The club was founded in the Fisherman’s Hall, in Dunmore East, and now operates from St Thomas’s Church, Brasscock, Waterford.
The club purchased its current premises from the Church of Ireland in 1988.
“The club is now firmly nestled within its surrounding community,” said the spokesperson.
“It delivers badminton programmes to people of all ages and abilities and from many diverse groups,” she added.
The club currently has 87 registered members and operates as a company limited by guarantee, and is registered with the Companies Registration Office, Dublin.
“Many of our members participate in club, county, provincial and national competitions,” said the spokesperson.
“Others prefer to play at a social level during one of our club morning and evening sessions,” she added.
With regard to the forthcoming event, she said: “If you are, have been, or would like to be part of the Dunmore Badminton Club community you won’t want to miss the celebration of this special occasion.”
