Do World Champions Have a Shot at the NBA? Former Captain Robin Benzing Weighs In

Former national team captain Robin Benzing believes that all world champions can make the jump to the NBA in North America – as long as they are not already under contract in the professional basketball league.

“I believe that everyone on the team can play in the NBA,” said the 34-year-old ran.de.

However, tournaments like the World Cup that just ended are “something special; you have different roles with the national team,” said Benzing.

This also applies to Andreas Obst, who particularly impressed in the semi-final against the USA. “Of course I believe he could play in the NBA,” said Benzing, “but I don’t know for sure whether it would be the right thing for Andi. He’s a player who needs a bit of structure, he needs systems, that are run for him.”

Of the twelve World Cup drivers, captain Dennis Schröder (Toronto Raptors), Daniel Theis (Indiana Pacers) and the Wagner brothers Franz and Moritz (both Orlando Magic) will be playing in the NBA next season.
