Departures from Insep, changes in managers… Why French fencing is in crisis ten months before the Games

Less than a year before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the French Fencing Federation is experiencing a period of great turbulence. While Hugues Obry, at the head of men’s foil, is on an ejection seat, and Lionel Plumenail and his deputy Denis Durant have resigned from their position as managers of women’s foil, three sabers, including the 2022 world vice-champion, Maxime Pianfetti, have decided to leave Insep to return to Vincent Anstett, their former coach, who was dismissed from his position last May.
