Daniil Medvedev dominates Alex de Minaur and advances to the quarterfinals in Beijing

Daniil Medvedev is now waiting to know the name of his opponent in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 in Beijing, who will be his compatriot Andrey Rublev or the Frenchman Ugo Humbert, who face each other this Saturday a little later in the day. The world No. 3 did the job, dominating Alex de Minaur in two rounds (7-6 [3]6-3).

The Australian (12th in the world), winner of the Russian in Montreal this summer but then defeated in New York by the future finalist of the US Open, faltered, not without resistance, notably in the heart of a first set that Medvedev had in pognes (5-2, double break), before loosening the grip. Less aggressive, delicate with his service, notably with seven double faults during the first set, Medvedev let the Australian become emboldened, before finally escaping in the decisive game. A tie-break that de Minaur let escape at 4-3, committing a double fault in his turn and a big unforced backhand error on his two service points!

The Russian then found more control in the second act, distributing the game backhanded and winning almost all of the long rallies, to break at 2-1. Never in difficulty with his throw, Medvedev, winner of five tournaments this season, headed without fear towards success and the quarter-finals in Beijing.
