Dallas Mavericks’ Coach Jason Kidd Undecided on Starting Center Position for 2023-23 Season

Dallas is clear that Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and Grant Williams are going to start, but from there everything is doubtful. In a recent conversation with Marc Stein, it was the team’s own coach, Jason Kidd, who indicated that the center position in the quintet that begins the 2023-23 season is something that has yet to be decided.

«It is at stake. I’ll start with Lively and see how she goes. In these last few weeks, our rookies have taken steps forward as I spoke with the coaching staff and Nico Harrison about starting Lively alongside Luka, Kai and Grant. We’ll see how that goes, but I can say that we will probably give the starting role to both rookies in training camp and probably in one, if not both games in Abu Dhabi, just to see how they handle the situation, “he says.

It’s not a surprise, at least in the case of Derek Lively. The center trained at Duke University only has competition from Richaun Holmes, who in principle has arrived to be a starter. However, the Mavs chose the 19-year-old with a number 12 in the draft, so it is not surprising that they at least want to explore that possibility.
