Champions League: Inter is doing well

Inter was held to a draw by Sociedad (1-1) when they entered the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Inter Milan was dominated by Real Sociedad who opened the scoring in the 4th minute, but the finalist of the last Champions League snatched the point of the draw (1-1) thanks to Lautaro Martinez, Wednesday at Saint -Sébastien (Spain).

Three days after its demonstration in the Milan derby (5-1), Inter, on its clouds after its perfect debut in the championship (12 points out of 12 possible), suddenly came back to earth, while Real Sociedad did not did not miss his return to C1 after ten years of absence. The Basques, 11th in their championship, stunned the visitors from the start with a rebound from Ander Barrenetxea pushed back by the right post of Yann Sommer (3rd), then the next minute the opening score.

Pavard’s debut, Thuram replacing

Alessandro Bastoni mismanaged a clearance from Sommer and found himself surrounded by three Real Sociedad players who recovered the ball 20m from the Italian goal. Brais Mendez had no trouble fooling Sommer. For his debut in the Inter jersey, French international Benjamin Pavard hoped for a completely different context, especially as Real Sociedad continued to press, particularly by passing down the right flank.

Inter, with Marko Arnautovic, preferred to Marcus Thuram, alongside Lautaro Martinez, very discreet, ended up reacting: on a cross from Denzel Dumfries (18th), Arnautovic crossed his head too much.

Real Sociedad finished the first period on the floor and Robin Le Normand had the opportunity to make the score 2-0, but his point-blank header lacked precision (41st). Back from the locker room, the Basques started again with a free kick from Mendez pushed back for a corner by Sommer (47th) and especially a point-blank header from Mikel Oyarzabal deflected by the Swiss goalkeeper (48th).

Simone Inzaghi reacted immediately by bringing in three usual starters: Thuram, very prominent for his debut in Serie A (two goals, two assists), Davide Frattesi and Federico Dimarco. This did not disturb Real Sociedad who could have increased the score with a header from Mikel Merino which flirted with Sommer’s crossbar (70th).

But Inter finished the match better than Real Sociedad, who were physically at bay. Lautaro Martinez took the opportunity to bring the two teams level in the 87th minute with his only real chance of the match.
