Last season’s champion team “Tenax” of Dobele won the third victory in the Latvian handball championship on Wednesday in a fierce battle, the Latvian Handball Federation (LHF) reports. Dobele’s team won at home with a score of 33:28 (15:15) over the handball players of the Murjani Sports Gymnasium (MSG).
After the teams went into the halftime break with a draw, both teams played evenly in the second half as well. In the 38th minute, the Dobelniks achieved a four-goal lead (22:18), but ten minutes later, Murjani handball players had already equalized the result (25:25).
Kārlis Krūmiņš put “Tenax” in the lead (27:26) in the 51st minute, and during the rest of the game, the hosts made a 6:2 breakthrough, which allowed them to celebrate the victory with a five-goal advantage at the end of the game.
Nils Kreitzbergs scored nine goals for the winners and Krūmiņš stood out with six accurate shots, while Valdis Kalniņš was the most productive in the visiting team with 12 goals.
Dobele’s team is the leader of the tournament with three wins in the same matches, while MSG ranks second with a 2-1 record.
Last season, the Dobele “Tenax” handball players became the champions, beating the MSG team in the final with 34:25.
