The Maimona Basketball Club celebrated this Tuesday, September 5, the final of the sixth edition of its 3×3 Summer League, which all the club categories have been playing during the month of August at the Alcalde Juan Blanco school.
Hundreds of people, including players, families and friends, passed by the school this Tuesday to share this end of the championship with the Santeña basketball family, who from 8:30 p.m. played the different games: youngest and youngest; the children’s category and mixed cadet; the senior women’s category and the senior men’s final. A children’s, cadet and senior triple contest was also held.

Tribute to Antonio Martinez
The moment in which they wanted to pay a special tribute to the late Antonio Martínez, a great promoter of basketball and sports in the town, was especially emotional. For this, the video made by the club in 2012 was projected, when the Los Santos de Maimona City Council gave the covered pavilion its name.

The mayor, Manuel Lavado, was in charge of introducing the video. He recalled that Martínez was the germ of basketball in the town and valued “his patience, dedication, commitment and his eternal smile.” He also highlighted the mayor who opened basketball to everyone, to those who stood out and to those who didn’t, as well as the fact that he was the first to promote women’s basketball. “Every santeño or santeña who practices this sport should know who was the person who took the first difficult steps, then everything has gone faster and has been easier and more comfortable,” the mayor concluded. Antonio Martínez’s wife, Julia, was present at the tribute.

The event ended with the delivery of gifts and trophies, delivered by the mayor, councilors Sabino Sánchez and Ismael Guillén, and Antonio Jesús Moreno, representing the Brotherhood of the Virgen de la Estrella.
