Cash for Rares Seller Makes Unusual Move to Boost Bids: Offers Push-Up Challenge

Full physical effort in the ZDF junk show “Bares für Rares” – everything for the highest bid. But before salesman Hans from Gernsbach gets carried away with top sporting achievements, he first has to pass the expert table with his two Japanese warrior figures. “Cash for Rares” presenter Horst Lichter and Detlev Kümmel, who today acts as a super expert, so to speak, are waiting there.

As a former martial artist, Asian art and culture is particularly close to his heart. And with salesman Hans, a colleague comes onto the show, as he too used to be involved in martial arts.

And so we start by talking shop about judo, karate and the like, and Horst offers to get a coffee, because he has absolutely no idea about it. His knowledge of Japan is limited to Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki – at least that’s how he gets his say…

Then ex-karate fighter Detlev takes a closer look at Hans’ samurai figures. Made entirely of paper and cardboard, according to Detlev, the whole thing unfortunately goes a bit in the direction of “tourist goods”. Maybe interesting for collectors, but also for dealers? In addition, the two paper warriors probably come from the 1960s – really antique is different. Hans would like 400 euros, and that is also the maximum price that “Cash for Rares” expert Kümmel estimates. Let’s see if the professionals in the dealer room agree. It could be close…

Negotiations stall, “Cash for Rares” seller gives everything

There is interest and Hans is optimistic. He can too, because the starting bid comes promptly from Steve Mandel at 200 euros. But at 300 euros he gets out again and things get really stuck. Wolfgang Pauritsch is ahead, but doesn’t want to pay anymore.

Full physical effort: 10 euros for each push-up – the “Cash for Rares” dealers are happy to take part in the bet.ZDF

The seller and ex-martial artist resorts to the last resort. He wants 10 euros more for every three-finger push-up. The dealers are enthusiastic about the bet and Hans gets started – sports are free! In the end, seven push-ups make a deal of 370 euros. Applause from the professionals and Wolfgang collects the bets.

The moral: early morning exercise and fitness can be worthwhile…

Want to see more spectacular antiques and their sales? “Cash for Rares” runs Monday to Friday at 3:05 p.m. on ZDF.
