Chile was a great protagonist of the Challenger circuit this week. The city of Antofagasta was in charge of hosting a category 100 CH tournament. This tournament belongs to the Dove Men Care circuit and, as happens in tournaments in the region, Latin American players have a great role. Of all the Argentines and Latinos in the draw, only two reached the semifinals.

Camilo Ugo Carabelli (196th ATP) is still excited about finding his best level and is having a good run in Chile. To advance to the final of the Antofagasta tournament he would have to beat another Argentine Roman Andres Burruchaga (269th ATP). This season is not the best for both players, Burruchaga came to this tournament after obtaining seven consecutive defeats, without so many ups and downs, de Carabelli’s 2023 is being intermittent.

Carabelli won a tight match in straight sets

The beginning of the match was fundamental to understand what happened in this first set. It all started with Burruchaga at the service, he was surprised by a great start from Carabelli. Camilo knew how to get a break in their favor at zero, in the first game of the match. This initial advantage allowed the Argentine to reach the end of the set with a break in his favor and achieve it in numbers to take it 6-4. From a numerical and tennis point of view both were very even.

The second set began being very even from a tennis point of view. However, Burruchaga was convinced that he had to recover what he gave up in the first set. For this reason, he knew how to realize his chance and broke Carabelli’s serve to make the score 2-0. The advantage was short-lived as Camilo quickly recovered the break. At the end of the set with the score tied, Carabelli achieved another break in the ninth game that placed him 5-4 and served. Finally, Camilo managed to be solid with his serve and take the second set 6-4.
