Cameroon orders the suspension of Canal + Elles channel for promoting homosexuality

Cameroon firmly opposes the broadcast of content promoting obscene behavior of a homosexual nature on the CANAL PLUS INTERNATIONAL channel. Yesterday, Friday September 22, the National Communication Council (CNC) sent a letter asking the operator to immediately suspend the broadcast of the channel named CANAL PLUS ELLES until further notice.

According to the Cameroonian media regulatory body, these obscene practices of a homosexual nature have mainly persisted through this channel, despite a prior warning last June. Indeed, the CNC had already warned CANAL PLUS INTERNATIONAL that these programs violated “the values and laws of the Republic”. Discussions had even begun with those responsible for CANAL PLUS INTERNATIONAL to find appropriate solutions.

Following these discussions, the broadcast operator formally committed to taking corrective measures, such as promoting the use of the parental code through an audiovisual announcement that it would co-sign with the CNC, or revision of its programs to make them conform to the laws and customs of Cameroon.

However, despite this commitment, which has so far not been respected, the criticized practices continue to be broadcast on the CANAL PLUS ELLES channel, which motivates the request for suspension made by the CNC. It is important to note that homosexuality is against the values and customs of many African countries.
