Burnley borrows Mike Trésor at the last minute from Genk: “Conversation with Kompany convinced me” | Premier League

At the stroke of midnight, Burnley came with the news: Mike Trésor signed a contract with the team of coach Vincent Kompany.

Burnley initially hires Trésor from Genk. According to various Belgian and British media, a mandatory purchase option of around eighteen million euros was included in the contract.

The 24-year-old Trésor played two seasons for Racing Genk. After a difficult debut year, he completely exploded last season. In 39 league games for the team from Limburg, he scored eight times and provided no less than 24 assists, a record in the Jupiler Pro League.

In the end, he rounds off his Genk passage with 9 goals and 33 assists in 84 games. Before that he broke through in the Netherlands at NEC and Willem II.

At PhD student Burnley, Trésor joins the group of compatriots led by coach Kompany. Red Devil Ameen Al-Dakhil, Hannes Delcroix, Manuel Benson, Samuel Bastien, Anass Zaroury and Enock Agyei are also under contract. The Clarets missed their start with two losses.

This morning Burnley dropped a video with the first reaction of the Belgian acquisition on his social media. He explains the story of his last-minute transfer.

“There had been interest for a long time. But the teams had to get out and I also had to come to an agreement personally. I chatted with the coach and the management. Then I made the decision, but it all took its time. In the end I am happy from being here.”

The Belgian assistant king explained what was decisive: “The project of the club and the vision of the coach. I had a long conversation with the coach and that convinced me.”

The fact that Kompany is a name like a clock in Belgium also played a role. “But his vision and the project are more important.”

At the end of July, Genk beat Burnley in a preparatory game, it became 2-0 in Genk. “That was for both teams with a completely different team than usual”, Trésor laughed. “At that time I was still focused on Genk, the following weeks it became more and more concrete.”

Today Burnley plays in the league against Tottenham, without Trésor of course. “I am very happy to move to the Premier League, I can’t wait to join the group. I will train first and then watch the match.”
