Budget increased for tourism promotion in Mexico – El Sol de México

The federal government will increase the budget for the promotion of Mexico as a tourist destination by 43 percent towards the last year of the current administration.

The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) will allocate 54.7 million pesos to this task for next year, this is 16.5 million pesos more than what was approved for 2023, according to the Federation Expenditure Budget Project (PPEF).

The document that the Ministry of Finance delivered to the Congress of the Union last Friday indicates that almost three quarters of these resources will be allocated to operating expenses, the rest are for personal services and others.

At the beginning of this six-year term, the federal government announced the extinction of the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico (CPTM), an organization that was in charge of coordinating and operating strategies to promote the image and brand of the country abroad in order to attract more visitors.

In July 2019, Sectur published a decree that made official the disincorporation of the CPTM from the Federal Public Administration as a company with majority state participation. From then on, the tourism promotion of Mexico abroad is carried out by the Tourist Diplomacy Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and the Mexican diplomatic corps.

In addition to this, the Ministry of Finance allocated 69.2 million pesos to Turística Integral Islas Marías, the operator of the new tourist destination in the Pacific run by the Ministry of the Navy.

It is one of the new companies with majority state participation created by this government for the promotion of destinations, in this case that of the Marías Islands.

The company began operations in September of last year with a budget of one million pesos.

At the end of 2022, tours to the archipelago began. To visit the Marías Islands there are two weekly ferry departures, one from Mazatlán and another from San Blas, with a capacity of 150 passengers each. However, the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur) seeks to bring more tourism to the Marías Islands given the high demand for the destination, since in the summer season levels of up to 90 percent were reached. percent in the tourist capacity that the destination currently has.
