Community, participation, inclusion, innovation, sharing, value. Here are some of the keywords of the first edition of “BIC Libraries – Innovation – Community”, the festival scheduled for 15 and 16 September at the Daste space in Bergamo. The Italian libraries are the protagonists in the city which, together with Brescia, is the Capital of Culture 2023.

Organized by the Rete delle Reti, a national movement for cooperation between Library Systems, of which the Castelli Romani System Consortium is a founding member and which currently includes 24 Italian Library Systems, Bic aims to be an opportunity to meet, contaminate each other, network, reflect on the present of Italian libraries and culture with an eye to the future.

An initiative which, due to its cultural value, will be presented on Monday 11 September in Rome at 12:00 in the Spadolini hall of the Ministry of Culture in via del Collegio Romano 27. The entire program will be illustrated in detail during the meeting.

The Bic calendar includes conferences, ignite talks during which the speakers will have 5 minutes available to talk about their ideas and projects, insights, round tables, presentations of initiatives, exchange of experiences.

A great ferment in two days full of ideas for insiders, but not only. Libraries are places of the community and therefore moments dedicated to the general public could not be missing, such as the literary talent show “Incipit Offresi”, which will see the first stage of the traveling championship for aspiring writers at the Bic, and the show “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” in curator of “Fiato ai libri”.

Among the guests of honor of the festival the philosopher Telmo Pievani, the expert in cultural management and planning Alessandro Bollo former director of the Polo del ‘900 in Turin, the CEO of the Moleskine Foundation Adama Sennah, the American “guru” of community librarianship David Lankes connecting from Texas.

“Bic is an opportunity to share good practices among libraries and help the entire Italian library community grow – says Giuseppe De Righi, President of the Rete delle Reti association and of the Castelli Romani System Consortium – A festival of ideas and innovations that it puts relationships and the community at the center”.

The festival was organized with the collaboration and contribution of the Ministry of Culture on the Reading Promotion Fund, the Cariplo Foundation, the Lombardy Region and the Municipality of Bergamo and is included in the Uninterrupted Productions project, conceived by the Bergamasca Library Network together with the Brescian librarian for Bergamo Brescia capital of culture 2023.

The initiative enjoys the patronage of AIB, the Italian Libraries Association, of Anci, of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, of Federculture.
