Bayern basketball players excited about the LED glass floor for the start

At FC Bayern’s league start, the focus isn’t just on the basketball players. A high-tech glass floor is also being tested for a game for the first time. A world champion is already making positive comments.
Munich. The Bayern basketball players are excited about the first use of a new LED glass floor at the start of the Bundesliga. The game between the title favorites and Syntainics MBC on Friday (8 p.m./Dyn) will take place on a floor made of LED elements. These can show the playing field, the lines, but also clips or other graphics and are reminiscent of a huge flat screen.
“This is a cool thing,” said world champion Andreas Obst after his training impressions. Teammate Nick Weiler-Babb said: “I like it.” Former NBA superstar Serge Ibaka finds the court “somehow different, but very interesting.”
This is the first time that such a high-tech floor has been used in an official first division game. And for now it will remain just one game – after the one-off test, the ground in BMW Park will be dismantled again, and the Munich team will then play the other matches in the Bundesliga and the Euroleague on the usual wooden floor. If the test is successful, Bayern will consider installing the glass floor in their new multifunctional hall (SAP Garden), which they will move into next season.
The glass floor is generating interest in the NBA
An important advantage of the new surface for the players is that stickers are no longer necessary to attach sponsor logos. These stickers, if not applied perfectly, sometimes cause athletes to slip. Bayern’s managing director Marko Pesic reported that the floor did not pose an increased risk of injury – the former national player had already secretly tested the surface himself.
The league test of the glass floor manufactured by a German company has already generated international interest in the basketball scene, Pesic reported. Both representatives of the North American elite league NBA and the Euroleague, i.e. the European premier league, recently inspected the floor.
