The 28-year-old YouTuber, rider and team owner Bas Tietema is putting an end to his career as a professional cyclist. His team TDT-Unibet Cycling will take a step higher to the ProContinental level next season and he does not see that step for himself as a rider.
Bas Tietema is known for his YouTube channel. At the beginning of this year he decided to set up his own team.
“I sincerely want to take the team a step higher, but can I handle that level? And am I ready for that? If I honestly look at myself, I have struggled quite a bit with my level this year,” he says in a video message.
“There were matches in which I had a very difficult time. I wasn’t able to finish many of them. Can I continue to do that? The honest answer is: no. I saw for myself how difficult it was to combine both roles (rider and team owner, ed.).
“I’m quitting my professional career. I enjoyed it immensely and I remain a huge fan. I’m now going to look at another role. I have already registered for the team leader course.”
