Badminton Rinconada is once again champion of the Iberdrola Cup. The corner girls manage to once again hold an immaculate championship without giving any of their rivals a chance. If the sensations were good on Saturday, this Sunday they have confirmed themselves to win a title that they dominate with an iron fist.
The first match of the day was the one that would decide a place in the final. Rinconeros and Huelva from Recreativo IES La Orden would once again reissue a confrontation that last season had its repetition in the league final and the semifinal of the European Club Championship. On this occasion it was Antonio Molina’s girls who managed to win the match with the victories of Leona Lee and Xu Wei in doubles and María Merchán and Xu Wei in singles to head towards the final.
In the final round, Oviedo and Rinconada would meet again to win the champion title. In the doubles duel, Xu Wei and Leona Lee managed to score the first point after beating Oviedo’s Laura Álvarez and Ruth Veiguela by four sets (11-7, 11-10, 8-11, 11-3).
In the second doubles match, Rinconada was once again the winner thanks to the good work of Claudia Leal and Laura Molina, beating Amaia Torralba and Kristina Sotomayor in three sets (11-10, 11-9, 11-9). With land in the way, Rinconada could not close the match quickly after María Merchán’s defeat against Laura Garrijo (3-11, 6-11, 11-7, 6-11) so that later Xu Wei could not gave the option to Ruth Veiguela (11-3, 11-0, 11-4) thus winning the title again for CB Rinconada.
Antonio Molina’s satisfaction
At the end of the final, the corner coach was “very excited to start the season again in a great way. We have managed to overcome all the phases with solvency and that shows the great women’s team we have.” Regarding the outcome of the match, Molina believes that “the key has been in coming out 2-0 in the double matches, which has allowed us to face the singles with the peace of mind that we only had to get one point out of the three. Finally, “We were not able to close the final with María (Merchán), but in the end Xu Wei managed to win in a great way.”
Finally, Antonio Molina values the work that has been done to “achieve the first title of the season, which is a primary objective. We want the league, but also this cup, because we always bring our best girls, so we have love this competition.”
It will not be until October when Bádminton Rinconada returns to action with the start of the competition. By then, they will begin as champions, one more year, of the Iberdrola Cup.
