Asturian Federation of Judo and Associated Sports Achieve Success in Kata Section at International Competition

The team of the Asturian Federation of Judo and Associated Sports achieved new success for the kata section in the Madrid town of Villaviciosa de Odón, by adding a gold medal and a bronze medal, with 4 of the 14 participants returning with a medal. A competition that was held for the first time in Spain and that attracted judokas from countries such as Slovenia, France, Italy, or Germany, some of them being European and world medalists.

The event also included a seminar and exam for continental kata judge, with four Asturians obtaining the qualification, being selected to be part of the tribunal in the competition. Amelia Fernández, José Joaquín Suárez, Vicente Jesús González and Jesús Verano achieved the licenses.

In the competition, José Joaquín, Vicente and Amelia made their debut as judges, the latter being the only woman to do so as a judge in the European final, thus becoming the first woman to obtain this title at the regional level. Teachers Jesús Verano and José Antonio Gandoy were also present at the European Cup performing their duties as national commissioners. As for the judokas, Rosa Trillo and Nora Barrera, from the Takeda Club, managed to get to the top of the podium in the junior Ju No Kata category, thus earning their third European medal. For their part, Mario Corujo and Esteban Díaz, from Judo Corujo, after reaching the final as third in their preliminary group, won bronze, thus adding their first European medal in the absolute category of Kime No Kata.
