Alan Williams Resigns as Defensive Coordinator of the Chicago Bears for Health and Family Reasons

Alan Williams, defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears, has submitted his resignation, the team announced Wednesday. Williams, 53, decided to take a step back to take care of his health and that of his family. “I appreciate the opportunity to work with the Chicago Bears, a storied NFL franchise with a rich history,” Williams said in a statement.

The defensive coordinator had left the team last week for personal reasons. During his absence, Bears coach Matt Eberflustook over defensive duties, including calling defensive plays in the 27-17 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Williams thanked the McCaskey family, describing them as “first class.” He also extended his gratitude to coach Matt Eberflus, general manager Ryan Poles and to the president Kevin Warren, as well as the coaches and players he worked with. “I value the NFL shield and everything it represents, and after taking some time to address my health, I plan to return and train again,” Williams added.

However, earlier Wednesday, rumors emerged regarding federal law enforcement and alleged raids at Williams’ home and the Bears’ headquarters in Halas Hall. Despite this speculation, a Bears spokesperson denied that Halas Hall had been raided by authorities or that “police” had visited the facility in connection with Williams. Brad Biggsa longtime Bears reporter for the Chicago Tribune, expressed skepticism about Williams’ resignation statement, suggesting his absence might not be related to health or family issues.

Andrew M. Stroth, a Chicago-based attorney, issued a statement on Williams’ behalf to clarify the situation. “Given the false rumors and what appears to be circulating on social media, I just want to clarify that Coach Williams is facing health challenges and family issues and thought it was the right time to step back and face those issues,” Stroth said. .

Williams took over as the Bears’ defensive coordinator last season after working as an assistant with teams such as the Colts, Lions, Vikings y Bucs.
