The badminton team, which failed to win a medal at the last Asian Games, departed Incheon International Airport and entered Hangzhou today. Women’s singles world No. 1 Ahn Se-young has expressed her ambition to win her gold medal here in Hangzhou, the hometown of her rival Chen Yu-fei.

The badminton team is arriving at Incheon Airport one after another ahead of their departure from Hangzhou. I am also determined to win a medal.

“Go for it!”

The biggest interest is Ahn Se-young. Ahn Se-young suffered the pain of being eliminated in the round of 32 against China’s Chen Yu-fei at her last Asian Games in Palembang, Jakarta.

“I had a lot of disappointing games before, but going to the Asian Games this time is going to be a more improved version of me, so I think I need to be able to show a lot of really good performances.”

Now, I am no longer the Ahn Se-young I was back then.

Ahn Se-young won nine gold medals at this year’s world championships. She was ranked world number one.

The goal, of course, is gold.

“What athletes always want is a gold medal. So I also want to do my best every day to achieve results that match that gold medal.”

This time, China’s Chen Yufei is mentioned as a rival, but even China’s state-run media, Xinhua News Agency, puts aside its own player Chen Yufei and selects Ahn Se-young as the strongest candidate for the women’s singles title.

Seyoung Ahn will begin singles competition on October 2nd.
