GUALDO TADINO – The 45th edition of the Giochi de le Porte opens today, which was presented on Wednesday in Perugia, in the Hall of Honor of Palazzo Donini.
“Personally I am very attached to historical re-enactments such as the Giochi de le Porte – said the president of the Region Donatella Tesei –. They represent the identity of a territory and are everyone’s heritage. Umbria is rich in these events and this is one own peculiarity. It is therefore important for the institutions to support them”.
Today’s program includes the historical procession of sutlers and tavern keepers and the exchange of gifts at 6pm in Piazza Martiri, followed by the ceremony of handing over the keys to the city from the mayor to the standard bearer, the singing of the Games anthem and the opening of the taverns from tonight until Sunday.
Then, at 9.30 pm the performance of the drummers of the Games Authority and the Four Doors and at 10.30 pm of the flag-waving and music group.
Tomorrow morning the administration’s greeting to the guest delegations, then at 2 pm the procession of jugglers and the slingshot and bow shooting tests. At 6pm the crossbowmen of the Waldum company will compete, with the winner carrying the Palio of San Michele Arcangelo in the parade. In the evening the historical procession with over a thousand people in period costume from the 15th century with entry into the Arengo Maggiore at 9.30pm where, at the end, the priors will launch their respective calls for challenge. On Sunday we start in the morning at 9.30 with the weighing of the carts and then at 11.45, at the Don Bosco theatre, with the proclamation of the winning door of the historical procession. Then at 2.30 pm the procession of jugglers and corporations and at 4 pm the start of the competitions that will award the Palio to the winning door: donkey cart racing, slingshot shooting, archery, bareback donkey racing.
