19-Year-Old Ashlyn Krueger Stuns in Victory at WTA 250 Osaka Tournament

Ashlyn Krueger won the WTA 250 tournament in Osaka at the age of 19. In the final on Sunday, the young American beat the Chinese Lin Zhu (6-3, 7-6 [6]), seeded n°1. Ranked 123rd in the world, Krueger won the first WTA title of her career. It was also his first final and only his 11th tournament on the circuit.

A sign of her dream week, Ashlyn Krueger did not lose a round in five matches played. For her part, Lin Zhu, 35th in the WTA rankings, was aiming for the second title of her career, after winning the tournament in Hua Hin (Thailand) at the start of the year.

For this first clash between the two players, the American quickly dominated the first set, winning in 36 minutes with a break from Zhu’s first service game. The second set was more competitive. The Chinese took the lead but was forced into a decisive game, neither player having given in on her serve. And Krueger ended up having the last word, in an hour and 36 minutes of play.
