His goal: to become a jockey. Brut followed the daily life of 18-year-old Mathieu for a day, from the simulator to training.

Accustomed to the equestrian world at a very young age thanks to his father who worked at the Diepp racecourse, Mathieu Calbrix quickly took an interest in this sport. “By dint of going there, I immediately liked to see people getting on the horse and doing the shopping with it. I had never ridden a horse and I learned my trade here, and I immediately liked the environment of the horses”. The adrenaline that the training gives him, the horse’s speed of up to 70 km/h make him appreciate this practice all the more. From this passion, he wants to make it his future job: jockey.

“My biggest dream is to win lots of races.”

For his trainer Francis-Henri Graffard, Mathieu is about to start his professional career as a jockey. “I hope that we will give him his chance little by little, but I think he has the potential. The job of jockey is a profession of a great sportsman, very physical, with a lot of intuition and very competitive.”. In the meantime, he trains with his trainer Stéphane Nicault on a simulator that allows him to balance himself well on the horse before climbing on his mount during training. “It’s getting a little tiring, but we’re getting into the sport, so it’s just the warm-up, after that I’m going to take action a bit. My biggest dream is to win lots of races. I’m only at the beginning, and now I’m going to do everything to work and set everything in motion to succeed on my own.” adds Matthew.
