Dutch central defender Micky van de Ven is leaving Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg after two years and moving to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. VfL collects a high transfer fee.

The 22-year-old is probably the second most expensive Wolfsburg departure. According to reports, Tottenham will pay up to 50 million euros to Lower Saxony. Only Kevin de Bruyne, who switched to Manchester City in 2015 for 76 million euros, flushed more money into the VfL coffers. It is now well filled, because in the summer Wolfsburg collected around 30 million euros for Felix Nmecha, who now plays for Borussia Dortmund.

The rain of money could bring movement again in the transfer scramble for midfielder Lovro Majer. Stade Rennes demands 35 million euros for the Croatian international (21 caps), who is celebrated in his home country as the “new Luka Modric”. So far, the Wolfsburg have not been willing to spend this sum for the desired player of VfL coach Niko Kovac.

Possible successors are already there

Van de Ven came to Wolfsburg from Volendam in 2021 and has played 41 competitive games (one goal) since then. Especially in the past season, the left-footed player became a top performer and completed 33 of 34 possible Bundesliga games.

VfL had already taken precautions in the summer transfer window and signed two new central defenders: Moritz Jenz came from Schalke 04 and Cédric Zesiger from Young Boys Bern. In addition, with Maxence Lacroix and Sebastiaan Bornauw as well as youth player Felix Lange, there are three other candidates for the central defensive position in the VfL squad.
