Venezuelan Power Leads the Nats to Victory over the A’s at Nationals Park

Venezuelan power made itself felt this Friday at Nationals Park. Keibert Ruiz and Ildemaro Vargas took to the streets to lead the Nats to a 7-2 victory over the A’s.

Jordan Diaz put the A’s ahead in the first inning with a two-run single. Ildemaro then combined with Stone Garrett to even it 2-2 in the second inning.

Jake Alu broke the tie in the fourth with a sacrifice fly. An inning later Keibert Ruiz (4-2) hit his 13th homer of the year to make it 4-2.

In the seventh, the Nats pulled away with a three-run home run by Ildemaro, who finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Jake Alu put the icing on the cake in the eighth with a solo home run.

The victory went to Cory Abbott after a relief of one and a third scoreless innings, in which he allowed just one hit, gave up a walk and struck out an opponent. He leveled his record at 1-1 and left his ERA at 5.06.

Paul Blackburn (2-3) took the loss, allowing four runs in 5.2 innings.
