Varane’s goal wins the Red Devils

Manchester United started their 2023/2024 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Raphael Varane was the winner for the Red Devils.

Manchester United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first week of the Premier League match took place at Old Trafford, Tuesday (15/8). The match was open with both teams buying and selling attacks.

MU released a total of 15 shots while Wolves fired 23 shots throughout 90 minutes. The Red Devils were able to take the lead after Raphael Varane got his name on the scoreboard in the 76th minute.

Course of the Match

The duel was open at the start of the fight. Wolves dared to offset the Red Devils’ open play. They rely on the speed of both wings.

However, both MU and Wolves were both in a rush when they entered the opponent’s area. This makes the match without a chance at the beginning of the fight.

MU was only able to record its first shot at goal in the 17th minute. Marcus Rashford moves on the right side of the penalty box. Jose Sa swiftly saved Rashford’s shot.

Wolves got a golden opportunity in the 26th minute. Matheus Nunes started Wolves’ quick counterattack. He can feed Pablo Sarabia who is free on the left. Sarabia shot but still wide.

MU began to be in control of the game towards the end of the first round. Rashford was free in front of goal when he received a cross from Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the 39th minute.

He can head the ball. Rashford’s header appeared to hit the hand from Nelson Semedo. But the referee and VAR did not consider handball because Semedo’s hand did not stretch.

Maximilian Kilman made a crucial block when he could have saved Antony’s jab. Moments later Rashford’s shot was blocked so it missed the target.

Wolves can dampen MU until the first round is complete. Score remained 0-0 closing halftime.

After the break, Wolves almost broke the deadlock in the 50th minute. Mathues Cunha was able to grab a bait ball from Sarabia. MU survived conceding because the ball still hit the bar.

Three minutes later it was MU’s turn to have a dangerous opportunity. Alejandro Garnacho released a chip kick that could trick Sa. However, Craig Dawson was able to sweep the ball across the goal line.

The attack continued until the middle of the first half. Nunes had a chance in the 73rd minute when he got a loose ball in front of goal. His shot was still aimed at Andre Onana.

Gol!!! The deadlock was finally broken with MU scoring in the 76th minute. Wan-Bissaka pierced into the penalty box. He provided a pass which Raphael Varane could head into a goal.

Left behind, Wolves raised the tempo of the game. Fabio Silva had two chances. All of the experiments were secured by Onana.

Wolves locked MU defense at the end of the game. MU can look solid to maintain excellence.

MU ended the match with a 1-0 victory.
