Valladolid Presents Complete Program for Virgin of San Lorenzo Fair and Festivities

·Music, theater, club activities, children’s shows, sports tournaments and gastronomy will star in ten days of festivities

The Mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, the Councilor for Education and Culture, Irene Carvajal and the Councilor for Tourism, Events and the City Brand, Blanca Jiménez, have presented the complete program of the Fair and Festivities of the Virgin of San Lorenzo that will be It will be held between September 1 and 10.

In total, close to a thousand activities that are distributed in more than fifty spaces throughout the city. The festivities will begin with the proclamation by the Valladolid journalist Alba Oliveros, from the balcony of the Plaza Mayor, to kick off ten days of activities for all audiences.

The mayor, Jesús Julio Carnero, has assured that “Valladolid’s patron saint festivities are a national benchmark, with a consolidated model for 20 years and a framework on which we are going to continue working so that it evolves with new and varied events”. The mayor has highlighted music, gastronomy, clubs and culture as “unequivocal pillars” of the festivities, made with an “integrative and plural spirit”. In this sense, he has stressed the importance of the festivities being a safe environment for everyone, in such a way that the installation of the purple dots information and psychological assistance at the Millennium Dome on days 2, 3, 8 and 9 during activity hours and at Playa de las Moreras from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. In addition, informative mobile violet points will be installed in different areas of the city.

Carnero added that “there is an offer of intergenerational leisure and fun where the protagonists are the people. And, in addition, they constitute a showcase of the tourist potential of Valladolid, an attractive city brand for visitors and a generator of wealth for the city” .

The Plaza Mayor will be the epicenter of musical activities, with the concerts de Cepeda, Tanxugueiras, Ana Torroja, La La Love You, Nena Daconte, Luz Casal, Rels B, the International Electronic Festival with Brian Cross, Nervo and Yves V; Lola Índigo, Antonio Carmona, Niña Pastori, or the British Pop Festival with The Christians, The Blow Monkeys and the Tony Hadley Band. Local artists will once again take center stage with performances such as Helena Bianco, Los del Lío, Vero Martín, Gon Abril, Blow, Freesboy, Pau Vegas, Megy Nikol, Ayuso, Juan Laforga or La Bazanca.

Gastronomy will once again be another of the attractions of the festivities with the day fair, in which 81 catering establishments will participate; but also with the XXXVII Folklore and Gastronomy Fair which will be installed from September 2 to 10 in the parking lot of the José Zorrilla Stadium and which will include performances by the Regional and Provincial Houses.

As is traditional, the program includes different activities in honor of Our Lady of San Lorenzo, such as the floral offering on Sunday the 3rd, the procession and mass on Friday the 8th and the artistic carpet made by the artisan José Gerbolés for that day.

Valladolid will be able to enjoy eight sessions of Fireworks in the place of Caño Hondo. They will be from Saturday to Saturday at 10:15 p.m., but this year they will have a novelty, since on Friday the 8th there will be a pyromusical show by Pirotecnia Xaraiva.

The program of the clubs is another of the highlights of the programming with 80 activities distributed among the ten days of festivities and that have sports, musical, children’s or tasting activities. In addition, on Saturday 2 the Guinness record 2023 in the Paseo Central del Campo Grande under the title “Pucela, se rueda” dedicated to the world of cinema on the occasion of the celebration of the Goya in Valladolid in 2024.

Another of the spaces with the most activities in the city will be the Paseo de las Moreras, which will mainly host entertainment for the youngest with concerts and performances. The Young Zone program for the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and cannabis use among young people and a purple point for information and psychological assistance in the Moreras area will also be installed there.

The little ones, on the other hand, will have varied programming in the Portugalete Square, in the Paseo de las Moreras and also with the visits of the Giants and Bigheads and of Tío Tragaldabas and Tía Melitona. In addition, the Real de la Feria will host attractions from September 1 at 4:30 p.m.

On the other hand, the Campo Grande Pergola it will host “the verbenas de las Feria” with orchestra performances every day at 8:30 p.m. and ballroom dancing and music have been organized in residences and centers for the elderly; in the penitentiary center and in the Dr. Villacián care center.

Another novelty of this year’s festivities will be the Flamenco Festival Valladolid which will have seven performances in the Parque de la Paz, Plaza de la Solidaridad, in the Plaza de la Danza and in the Plaza Mayor. Also for the first time, a parade concert by the Banda Llíria City of Music will be held, hand in hand with the Unesco Network of Creative Cities of which Valladolid has been a part since 2019 as a creative city of cinema. It will take place on the 8th and will cover Santiago Street, Zorrilla Square and Recoletos Sidewalk. In addition, another novelty for the whole family is the presence of the Nintendo truck in Plaza Colón on September 2 and 3, where children and adults can enjoy around twenty games for free.

The activities are also distributed in other spaces such as the Patio de la Hospedería de San Benito, dedicated to Castilian folklore and the Amateur Dance Festival of Valladolid; the Millennium Dome where activities for young people and magic for all audiences will be held. But a program has also been prepared in the Casa Zorrilla, in the Patio Herreriano Museum, an eco-market in the Plaza de España or dances in Fuente Dorada. As of the 7th, you can also enjoy the 45th edition of the Valladolid Ceramics and Pottery Fair and on the 6th the Trade Fair will open its doors.

The Plaza de Toros will have the Taurine fair of Nuestra Señora de San Lorenzo with four bullfights, a corrida de rejones and a cutting contest. In addition, a cycle of bullfighting colloquiums will be held at the Zorrilla Theater under the title: ‘Dialogues on bullfighting with Count Ansúrez’ by experts in the sector.

As for the theaterthe Calderón will host the musical Grease or Los chicos del choro, but there will also be performances at the Zorrilla Theater, Carrión Theater, the Auditorium of the Valladolid Fair, the Miguel Delibes Cultural Center, Sala Borja or Cervantes Theater.

In addition to all these spaces, there are close to fifty activities spread throughout all the city’s neighborhoods, where you can enjoy children’s theatre, dance, music or the circus.

The program is completed with a schedule of guided tourist visits for all those who come to know Valladolid during these days; and also a special program in the Municipal Exhibition Halls and in the Museum Houses.

Finally, during the ten days of festivities, about thirty events and sports activities will be held, including football, fishing, supercross, baseball, calisthenics, automodeling, ballooning, handball, Olympic shooting, chess, canoeing, model airplanes, artistic swimming, shooting archery, petanque, water polo, fencing or futsal.

Fairs in the metaverse

For the first time, the festivities of the Virgin of San Lorenzo will be taken to a digital environment thanks to the collaboration of the Valladolid City Council and Apolo Estudio Creativo. This initiative seeks to present globally and in real time the arrival of the Peñas at the Plaza Mayor in Valladolid, followed by the proclamation and start of the festivities.

The uniqueness of this proposal lies in its ability to bring the festive experience to people from all over the world. Through this digital environment, any individual, regardless of their geographical location, will be able to participate in the inauguration of the festivities of the Virgin of San Lorenzo 2023.

pre-parties

Another novelty this year is the incorporation of the Pre-Fairs to the program. For years there were no activities in the week before the festivities and on this occasion we have collaborated with the following programming:

• Friday 25 and Saturday 26 August: El Milanito Festival, in the Antigua Hípica de Valladolid.

• Thursday, August 31: Miguel Ríos, 40th Anniversary Tour, in the Valladolid Bullring.

• And also that same day, Thursday 31: Lorencito Fest, on the sports courts of Playa de las Moreras for the enjoyment of young people.
