Toronto Blue Jays reliever Trevor Richards has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with neck inflammation.
To make up for his absence, the team recalled right-handed pitcher Bowden Francis from Buffalo in the AAA.
Richards pitched a perfect inning last Tuesday in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
The 30-year-old is one of the Jays’ top relievers this season, posting a 2.98 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work.
Richards is in his third season in Toronto.
After their last game of their series against the Orioles, the Blue Jays will fly to Boston to face the Red Sox.
