The former Arsenal star is set to make a big comeback as he looks to return his parent club to La Liga

The signing of Cazorla is the icing on the cake for Oviedo fans. The man who came through the youth categories of Oviedo is the ninth summer signing of the club, which has a clear goal: a return to the first league.

“When you have a dream, you have to make it come true. When I was nine, I dreamed of playing in my city. Now it fills me up. A lot of people might think that I have nothing to gain but a lot to lose. But I see this exactly the opposite,” said Cazorla, who played for Villarreal, Huelva, Málaga and Arsenal. He spent the last three seasons at Al Sadd in Qatar.

He left the biggest mark at Arsenal. He played 180 games for the Gunners, scoring 29 goals. He won the FA Cup twice and the Community Shield twice with Arsenal. When he left the Emirates in 2018, fans wept. Cazorla was among their biggest favourites. The same will be the case for Oviedo supporters. “I can’t promise things I don’t know will happen. But I can promise that I will do my best to advance,” he sent them a message.

At his own request, he will receive a minimum annual salary of 93,000 euros (approximately 2,250,000 crowns), set by the management of La Liga 2. So roughly 190,000 crowns per month. In addition, he relinquished all rights to the club’s image with one condition: 10% of the sale of his jerseys will go towards investing in Oviedo’s youth academy.

Cazorla’s career is framed by a story of immense will. The 81-time representative has become an example for many people who are dealing with serious health problems. In 2016, not only his career was threatened by a serious leg injury, when an infection took seven centimeters of his tendon. The impending amputation was cut short by the eleventh operation, during which doctors performed a skin transplant. This was taken from his left forearm, with his daughter India’s name tattooed on it.

He hasn’t kicked a ball in two years. In the summer of 2018, he shocked the football world when he announced his return to football. As part of the welcoming ceremony at the Villarreal stadium, a magician conjured him out of a large can. Will Oviedo now conjure up a return to La Liga?
