The player suffered a knee injury that will sideline him for the second consecutive year; Cleveland hoping to get Marquise Goodwin back

BEREA — The Cleveland Browns lost a wide receiver for the rest of the year, but will have another back in time for the start of the regular season.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Sunday that Jakeem Grant has torn the patellar tendon in his right knee and will be out for the season for the second straight year.

Jakeem Grant had to go out on the assist cart in Saturday’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs after the game-starting kickoff.

Last year, Jakeem Grant suffered a torn Achilles tendon in training camp. He was shaping up to start the season as a specialist in kick returns and punt returns.

Cleveland, however, will have another key receiver back, as the team announced that Marquise Goodwin has been cleared by a doctor to be removed from the list of players with non-football injuries.

Marquise Goodwin missed training camp with clots in his legs and lungs.

Stefanski said Marquise Goodwin would start training for the first time since minicamp in June. Cleveland signed the 32-year-old veteran in the offseason. In his career, he has 187 receptions.
