The newly formed Schremser Beers junior team, the Beers Juniors, played their first two official friendlies last Saturday.
SCHREMS. After intensive efforts in the youth field this season, the newly formed youth team of the Beers, the Beers Juniors, played the first official friendlies against the youth of the Gramastettner Highlanders from Upper Austria. Coach Alex Dailey’s team, consisting of 10 to 14-year-old baseball players, was even able to make their first appearance very successful with a win.
Spiel #1: Beers Juniors vs Gramastettner Highlanders 19-9
Both coaches increasingly sent their younger players onto the field in this first encounter. Lian March started as a pitcher for the Beers Juniors and, supported by a very solid defense, hardly allowed the Gramastettner offspring to run. The Juniors scored consistently, including hitting two inside-the-park homers. Towards the end of the encounter, the Upper Austrians were also in a good mood to hit, but this did not change the final score of 19-9 for the Beers offspring.
Spiel #2: Beers Juniors vs Gramastettner Highlanders 10-17
The Highlanders played the second game with slightly older, already championship-tested players. Nevertheless, the Beers Juniors held up very well. Ben Preißl, the only experienced baseball player on the Beers side, pitched three very good innings and the offensive also managed some nice hits. The Juniors were leading 10-9 about halfway through the game. After that, however, the Highlanders pitcher, who was substituted in and throwing very quickly, was no match and the Upper Austrians were able to win the game 17-10 at the end.
From trial training to baseball team
An absolutely successful premiere for the Beers Juniors, who were visibly satisfied with their performance in front of many interested spectators at Beers Field. What began in mid-May with loose practice sessions has now grown into a 15-man baseball team that practices twice a week under Coach Dailey.
Interested children and young people from the age of 7 and up can join at any time or just take a look. Training times are every Tuesday and Thursday for children (under 10 years) from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and for youth (from 10 years) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Beers Field in Eugenia.
