The 2023 World Cup: A Gateway to the Paris Olympics

The World Cup is a major event on the sporting planet, and its trophy one of the most prestigious and hardest to win for an athlete. The 32 nations involved in the competition will therefore compete with one objective in mind: to lift the Naismith trophy. But behind this goal, hides a second more accessible but just as ambitious goal: to win your ticket for the 2024 Olympic Games.

The 2023 World Cup will indeed be the first competition to award directly qualifying places for the Paris Olympics. A total of 7 tickets will be awarded to the best teams from each continent according to the final ranking as follows:

Two for the Americas Two for Europe One for Africa One for Asia One for Oceania

All scenarios are possible, but this system makes it possible to distinguish some tendencies for the direct qualification. For the American zone, the United States and Canada have a good chance of sharing the two tickets for Paris 2024. We will have to be wary of the South American nations, but the two North American giants are the big favourites. Ditto in the Oceania zone, with Australia which seems a step above all the other countries. As far as Africa and Asia are concerned, it is more difficult to determine favorites… and we won’t even talk to you about Europe where the fight for the two qualifying tickets promises to be fierce. Only one country is already guaranteed to take part in the Olympic Games… France, which has its place guaranteed by its status as host country.

For the 24 countries that fail to win their ticket to the Olympics via the World Cup, it will be necessary to go through the Olympic qualifying tournament. But be careful, this one will only offer 4 additional places! Yes, we are not on the same quotas as the World Cup, the Olympic Games are reserved for the elite. It will therefore be necessary to fight to be one of the 12 nations present in Paris in 2024!
