Students from the Teikyo University of Science Faculty of Medical Science Department of Judo Therapy (Tokyo West Campus: Uenohara City, Yamanashi Prefecture) recently experienced work as a support staff at the professional soccer club “Ventforet Kofu”, which currently belongs to the J2 League. This is due to the university’s pitch signboard as a sponsor of Ventforet Kofu. On the day of the event, the 1st and 2nd year students of the same department worked hard after receiving guidance from the team’s trainers on preparations in the locker room and how to make drinks for the players.
Teikyo University of Science’s Department of Judo Rehabilitation is located in Uenohara City, Yamanashi Prefecture, on the West Tokyo Campus. It is possible to aim for the qualification of a sports trainer as well as the national qualification of a judo therapist, and many students who have experienced sports in high school are enrolled.
Ventforet Kofu has all the cities, towns and villages in Yamanashi Prefecture, centered on Kofu City and Nirasaki City, as its hometown, and the university puts up pitch signs at Ventforet Kofu’s home games.
Under these circumstances, the club accepts students from the Judo Rehabilitation Department as supporting staff, and every year students experience the professional sports scene as part of their internship.
Usually, the experience is held during the summer vacation, but this year, the club will participate in the AFC Champions League 2023/24, so it will be held about a month and a half ahead of schedule.
On the day of the event, the team’s trainers directly instructed the students on preparations in the locker room, how to make drinks for the players, and how to prepare for the taping. In addition, time was set aside for students to ask questions about the mindset and precautions to be taken as a trainer. I asked questions positively.
They also set up a sponsor signboard behind the goal and set up a tent outside the venue, which was a valuable experience in understanding the management side of the match.
Although the participating students seemed nervous at first, they received detailed explanations and guidance from Ventforet Kofu staff and team members, and by the end of the experience ended in a friendly atmosphere.
