Swiatek Calls for Focus on Players’ Well-being and Game Scheduling

“The tour is already intense with all the trips, so it would be nice to focus on the players in the future, especially next year, when there will be more and more compulsory tournaments and longer tournaments,” the world number one asked those responsible for the WTA to focus on the players and not on the financial aspect.

Swiatek sees the late game schedules in particular as a problem: “In Rome I already told you that the scheduling is crazy. Nevertheless, during the clay court season in Rome and Madrid I played four matches just before midnight or after midnight and she finished.”

The background to Swiatek’s statements was Elena Rybakina’s match against Daria Kasatkina at the Canadian Open, which ended shortly before 3:00 a.m. local time on Saturday morning. Rybakina had also criticized that.

The Polish questioned the fundamental importance of matches after 10:00 p.m. for the TV stations: “I understand that we have to adapt to the TV stations and everything else, but I also asked the WTA for data to see if the People watch games that start after 10 p.m.

Swiatek demands answers

“I didn’t get anything, but it would be easier to understand if it makes any sense to play so late,” Swiatek asked for answers from the organizers.

In addition, the 22-year-old pointed out that the duration of a match is not the only problem for the players, but that the follow-up to a game would drag on late into the night.

“And it’s not like we’re done after two hours and going to bed. I’m happy if I can go to sleep four hours after the game. I have almost an hour of treatment, of course media, I have to after the game stretch, eat, and then it’s not easy to get the adrenaline off either. I wish that could change, that’s all,” said the world number one.
