SportAcademy Multi-Sports Center: A Collaborative Project Set to Launch Soon

A project to which many have contributed and which will soon see the light. This is the SportAcademy multi-sports center in Genestrerio, which will host various disciplines and will have spaces dedicated specifically to climbing, artistic gymnastics and judo. “We are in the process of refining the details and the goal is for the center to be operational from October,” he tells us Diego Solca, president of the foundation. Currently, the equipment for artistic gymnastics is being prepared inside, it seems that it should be completed in a couple of weeks. The one related to climbing is almost finished, while for the judo area there are still some structural finishing works on the walls.

All united for one goal

The soul of the project is based on volunteering, and several volunteers were also involved to accompany the construction site: «They have been active since the beginning of the construction site. They gave us a hand with cleaning, painting, small works and arranging the gym equipment. There is a network of people, mainly linked to the sports clubs concerned, such as young people, monitors, presidents and friends, who we activate when necessary and we always get good feedback». The president therefore thanks all these people and “the partners, the companies involved in the project and in the construction site, the Municipalities and all the public bodies that have allowed us to get to the end”. The building site has undeniably been touched by the difficulties of recent months: general increase in costs, bank interest rates, delays in the supply of materials: «Thanks to the help of the various players, we have managed to manage them and the center will be ready with just one month late compared to what we had set.

An investment of around 3.5 million

In addition to organizational issues, the financial aspect is central to a project of this kind which has a cost of around 3.4-3.5 million francs, Solcà indicates. And the greatest challenge was finding the funds to start the building site: «There were times when the project lost strength, but we’ve always managed to relaunch it, restart with enthusiasm and overcome the difficulties – he points out -. However, we have always done what we could afford. Never step longer than your leg can.’ Furthermore, the people and companies involved in the construction site, which started on 8 June 2022, «have understood the goodness of the project and when faced with a problem, a solution has always been found, putting the economic aspect into the background. The goal was and is to get to the end».

Many interested in spaces

In recent weeks, in addition to finishing off the construction site, work is also being done on more administrative issues: space occupation plans, regulations, agreements. At present, in addition to the promoting associations (climbing, artistic gymnastics and judo), many are interested in using the spaces of the centre: «External groups, companies to carry out teambuilding activities, companies for training camps have contacted us ». This not only from the cantonal territory: “Word is getting around and this center has a particular offer, with the possibility of doing activities that are not so usual”.
